Mike's Rigs N' jigs believes in providing all children an opportunity to experience fishing.
We collect broken rods & other fishing equipment from anglers in the community to refurbish & give away to children in the community on a monthly basis.
It's our way of ensuring that the next generation can connect with nature and enjoy the thrill of fishing.

Mike’s Rigs N’ Jigs is enhancing community lives through Fishing!
Every year, thousands of Nova Scotians do not get to experience Fishing and all the mental health benefits it has to offer due to not being able to afford the cost of the necessary equipment. Many have families with children, but due to a limited income they struggle to make ends meet. This means they are not able to have additional money available for recreation and leisure. Due to this issue, children may suffer.
As a parent myself, I firmly believe we need to do everything we can to ensure our children have everything they need, and also are never denied the opportunity to experience what ever their hearts desire. This is why Mike’s Rigs N’ Jigs is driven to fill this void by doing free monthly raffles and giving away fishing rod combos and fishing tackle prizes to children in our community.
After noticing many existing customers often retire old rods and dispose of broken ones, I had a realization of a solution. This is when I began the “Rods for Todds” program. Customers are presented with an option to trade in old and broken rods in exchange for store credits. The rods are then refurbished in-house and are then used in the monthly draws. All tackle prizes are manufactured Mike’s Rigs N’ Jigs tackle products.
This year I have held seven draws and have given away twenty-eight fishing rod combos and eight fishing tackle prizes with tackle boxes. I have had tremendous amounts of happiness come from seeing all the smiles and happy faces of children that are now equipped to get out and experience the joys of fishing. For many, this may be the very first time. Being able to offer this kind of opportunity can be life changing for some people. Even the smallest thing can make the biggest impact!
It has been extremely rewarding to be able to offer such an amazing experience to children in the community and the feedback has been very positive. To ensure we keep this positive momentum going in the next year, I am excited to announce that Mike’s Rigs N’ Jigs has allocated five percent of all profits be designated to growing the “Rods for Todds” program in 2025. This will allow me to ensure we maximize the positive impact I can make on children in our community. I have a firm belief that every child should be able to get out fishing and I will do everything in my power to ensure we make that possible!
